Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, has announced a worldwide recall of more than 1.5 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks after identifying a potential defect involving the second-row seat belt system. The issue could reduce the effectiveness of seat belts during a crash, increasing the risk of injury to passengers.
According to Reuters, the recall affects 2019–2026 Ram 1500 models that may have been manufactured with a second-row center or second-row driver-side seat belt buckle anchor that was not properly attached to the vehicle’s body structure. If the anchor is not securely fastened, the seat belt system may not function as intended during a collision.
The recall covers approximately 1.27 million vehicles in the United States, 156,000 in Canada, 15,000 in Mexico, and around 75,000 vehicles in other international markets, making it one of Stellantis’ largest global safety recalls in recent years.
Stellantis stated that it became aware of the issue through internal quality monitoring and confirmed that it is aware of one injury that may be related to the defect. However, the company said it has received no reports of fatalities linked to the problem.
Owners of affected vehicles will receive official recall notifications instructing them to schedule appointments with authorized dealerships, where technicians will inspect the seat belt anchor assembly and perform repairs if necessary at no cost to customers.
